In January 2025, I had the honour of being invited to participate in Memories Carried, an international project by ArtForward at Globe Gallery, Newcastle. The exhibition was curated by Iraqi photographer and filmmaker Yamam Nabeel.

MEMORIES CARRIED
at Globe Gallery, North Shields
Launching Thursday 23 January 2025 6-9pm
Following major events in London, Berlin, Paris and Birmingham, the Memories Carried
international campaign and touring exhibition is comes to Globe Gallery in North Shields,
raising funds for human rights and humanitarian charities working in Palestine.
Created by Iraqi photographer and filmmaker Yamam Nabeel, Memories Carried brings
together over 20 international photographers and activists, including artists from Palestine,
the wider Arab Region, across Latin America, the UK and Europe, all committed to raising
funds for charities on the ground in Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) and Lebanon.
The exhibition series and campaign is a collaboration between Art Forward and Amnesty
International UK, and has already raised thousands for vital causes, supporting Al Haq, Al
Mezan, The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund, and Health Workers for Palestine.
As Globe Gallery celebrates it’s 30th birthday and returns to its original home on Howard
Street, its ongoing commitment to community engagement, dynamic artistic practices, and
championing underrepresented voices make them the perfect partner to bring the Memories
Carried project to the North-East.
As part of the campaign, The Wall of Hope initiative will invite the public to take portraits of
friends and family with a personal message of hope, which can be submitted online with a
donation and an invitation to others to do the same. Beyond raising funds, the aim is to
create a digital wall of portraits to offer hope and solidarity with the people of Gaza. This will
be exhibited online and internationally at events, including projections on public landmarks.
Through an evolving programme of exhibitions and events, and most importantly through
community building and conversation, this campaign will educate the public, support
organisations working on the ground in Gaza and Lebanon, and build a repository of hope
with international reach.
Memories Carried will unite prominent voices on both a global stage and within local
communities, denouncing the systematic discrimination of Palestinians under Israel’s system
of apartheid.

ART FORWARD
Since 2020, Art Forward has produced numerous international projects and exhibitions across UK,
Europe and the Middle East. Founded by Nathalie Chace and Yamam Nabeel, the Art Forward
team devise and produce projects that share global stories and platform voices that may otherwise
be silenced, building a dialogue that transcends cultural, religious, and geographical differences.
AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL UK
Amnesty International UK work to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are
denied. As a global movement of over ten million people, AIUK is the world’s largest grassroots
human rights organisation. AIUK investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilise the public,
and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world, and received the Nobel Peace Prize
for their life-saving work. AIUK is a dual entity comprising of two distinct organisations, the Amnesty
International UK Section and the Amnesty International UK Charitable Trust.
AL-HAQ
An independent Palestinian organisation based in the West Bank protecting and promoting human
rights, documenting violations of the individual and collective rights of Palestinians, irrespective of
the identity of the perpetrator, and seeks to end such breaches by way of advocacy and by holding
the violators accountable.
AL-MEZAN
Al Mezan Center for Human Rights is an independent, non- partisan, non-governmental human
rights organization based in the occupied Gaza Strip, dedicated to protecting and promoting the
respect of human rights, especially economic, social and cultural rights, supporting victims of
violations of international human rights law and international humanitarian law, and enhancing
democracy, community and citizen participation, and respect for the rule of law in Gaza as part of
the OPT.
HEALTH WORKERS FOR PALESTINE
Health Workers for Palestine (HW4P) is an expanding, non-partisan collection of healthcare workers,
agencies and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) concerned about the deteriorating
healthcare and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Their primary aim is to advocate for the people of Gaza,
calling for an urgent ceasefire now and an end to the 16-year siege and blockade on Gaza.
THE GHASSAN ABU SITTAH CHILDREN’S FUND
Initiated in early January 2024 by a group of multidisciplinary professionals in Lebanon, transporting
severely injured children from Gaza to Lebanon where they can provide comprehensive medical
care while also helping to relieve the overburdened medical sector in Occupied Palestine.
